5 Questions With…Erica Leflein, Director of Human Resources

It’s a great time be part of the On Deck Team. We’re growing faster than ever, creating new and innovative loan products, and are shaping the dialogue about how Main Street accesses capital. And on top of all of that, we’re hiring for a wide range of positions. We spoke with Erica Leflein, Director of Human Resources, about what we are looking for in potential candidates.

1. What type of culture can a new employee expect taking a job at On Deck?
We’re a completely open environment with a group of extremely smart people, but we check our egos at the door. We’re business casual; most employees wear jeans. We have quarterly events where we all gather as a team and are able to get to know each other outside of the office. Yet, we take our commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and growth very seriously. Every team has detailed roadmaps and are incredibly meticulous about staying on schedule. We come to work every day in order to make On Deck the best in the industry. Simply put, we are extremely competitive externally, but internally collaborative

2. What qualities do you look for in a job candidate?

I always say, people who succeed at On Deck are innovators. Always thinking about making a project better, faster and stronger is very much embedded in our culture, so someone who isn’t afraid of that would really thrive here. Also, being hardworking, honest and determined that they can make On Deck better are all excellent qualities.

That it’s never boring! Plus, a lot of employees are friends here. We have company basketball, softball and bean bag toss teams.

5. In your opinion, what is the best part of working at On Deck?

This very clear, very compelling, direction helps bond all employees together and really opens the lines for collaboration, great ideas and improvements from all angles.
