In honor of National Small Business Week, we conducted a national campaign across our customer base to find out what people love most about owning their own business. We received so many wonderful entries and are excited to start sharing them with you.
To start, we’re featuring Infinite Decor Inc., a New York-based interior decorating business that specializes in window treatments, new furniture, and reupholstery. We spoke with owner and head designer Christine Latronica who spoke warmly of how her childhood influenced her business.
1. What is your business, and how did you get started?
My story starts when I was about 10 years old. My father owned a Benjamin Moore paint and decorating store, and I loved helping him after school. As I got older, I took more of an interest in learning the business, color, texture, fabric, etc. Little did I know that I was not only helping out the family business, but finding by lifelong career.
2. What do you love most about being a small business owner?
The look on a clients face when the job is done. That is just the best. My clients know that when they call they are being taken care of from start to finish, and that they matter!
3. How is your business helping your local community?
Giving personalized, one-on-one service to my clients – rather than them going to a big box retailer – means a lot around here. We’ve done some seat cushions for the local church, which was a really great project for me.
4. If you could tell a new customer one thing that makes your business great, what would it be?
That I love what I do! Getting referrals from satisfied customers is the ultimate compliment. And I’m so lucky to have had the support and resources to get my business off the ground.
